Edward Elgar (1857–1934) is one of England’s most celebrated composers, and held strong views about the idea of war. He wrote brilliant works such as Carillon and The Spirit of England inspired by World War One. The following information pack will give you an overview of Elgar’s life and his experiences of the World War One, a fascinating look into his compositions inspired by the war, and lots of information on the Behind the Lines project and related activities.
