Behind the Lines

Behind the Lines was an innovative, year-long partnership between Westminster Music Library and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, supported by public funds from Arts Council England, that explored the lives and works of composers affected by the Great War. Over 2013-2014, RPO musicians and workshop leaders used the resources of the Westminster Music Library to engage schools, adults and families in creative explorations of some of the best known composers from the turbulent time. From Bliss to Vaughan Williams and more, workshops and lectures gave the public a chance to learn about the history of these great composers before creating their own musical reactions to the First World War.

The pages on this website highlight the many events and performances that took place during the course of the programme as well as offer resource packs with information on each of the composers that featured in our workshops and information on upcoming concerts, workshops, singalongs and more that will be going on throughout the centenary period.
